Leighton Miller is a Nurse Practitioner that joined the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in May of 2012 as a full time provider.   He provides care in the ER as well as seeing patients at the Greensburg Family Practice Clinic and the Haviland Clinic.

He grew up on a small farm in southwest Kansas and graduated from Lakin High School in 1985.  During this time he was in 4-H for 14 years and participated in numerous projects including market steers, cooking, entomology and grains.  During his high school years, he was active in numerous school activities including football, music, forensics, debate and all of the school plays.  He has several fond memories of his roles as the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz, “Roger” in Grease  and “Marrying Sam” in Lil’ Abner.

Leighton received his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from West Texas State A&M in Canyon Texas in 1992.  From there he joined the Navy and was commissioned as a Nurse Corps Officer, where he spent 8 years working in Navy Medicine.   He then returned to Southwest Kansas and worked in Meade Kansas beginning as the Director of Nursing and later as the Chief Information Officer.  Leighton completed his Master’s Degree as an Advanced Practice Nurse in 2008, and received his Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2009.

Currently Leighton lives in Fowler with his wife Shawna who is also a Nurse Practitioner.  He has two daughters, Keighley who is 18 and starting college at Kansas Wesleyan this fall, and Eryn who is 15 and will be a sophomore at Fowler High School.

His hobbies consist of anything that keeps him busy.  He enjoys the outdoors and often likes to ride his motorcycle.  He is an avid hunter and fisherman as well and loves when pheasant season opens in the fall.  He also enjoys cooking, and specializes in Italian where his years in 4-H and a 3 year stent in Naples Italy with the Navy helped to hone his skill to (almost) perfection!

As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Leighton provides care to all ages of patients, but being a “kid at heart” he really enjoys working with pediatrics.  In all his endeavors, Leighton strives to bring the core values of “Honor, Courage, and Commitment” to his practice by providing care in a collaborative, professional and caring manner.
