KCMH has 15 acute-care beds. Acute care is a branch of secondary health care where a patient receives active but short-term treatment for a severe injury or episode of illness, an urgent medical condition, or during recovery from surgery. In medical terms, care for acute health conditions is the opposite of chronic care or longer-term care.
KCMH also has Swing Bed services. Swing Bed is a program that allows patients to receive skilled care services at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital once acute hospital care is no longer required, but the patient continues to need services that cannot be easily provided in the patient’s home. The program is designed to assist patients in reaching their highest potential for health and independence prior to returning to their home.
